The second full week since we got back from winter break was not nearly as painful as the three days we had as the second week after break. I've been relatively successful at keeping off of the computer for non-school purposes until my homework is done, just because, after sitting down and doing only homework for a few nights straight, I realized that there is actually a lot and it didn't just feel that way because I had been starting at midnight.
Last night (Thursday), I started my homework as soon as I got home and finished it by seven o'clock. It was Alli's 20th birthday and we met in Shibuya at nine. Gasp! I have to go right now, but I'll complete this post tomorrow.
RELATIVE TOMORROW (Jan. 29, 2005):
After stopping at a tiny bar for Alli to have her last illegal drink in Japan, we went to the karaoke place we went to for Brian's birthday, waited until 11 PM playing video games and othello in the lobby, and started our singing when All-Night Fever was commenced. We made some beautiful selections; You Spin Me Round (Like a Record), Where the Streets Have No Name, Come On Eileen (courtesy of Tessa, thanks bebeh), Message in a Bottle, The Origin of Love (yes, they had Hedwig and the Angry Inch!), and the most hilarious of the night, Sit On My Face by Eric Idle. Nothing of note happened and boy, am I glad we had that pitcher of water. By the end of the night, my voice was screeching if I tried to sing too high. We had some pretty impressive harmonies on songs like This Monkey's Gone To Heaven and *gasp* we didn't do Bohemian Rhapsody!! What blasphemers we have made of ourselves...
After breakfast at McDonalds ("hotcakes" and a hash brown), Mia and I went home to the apartment. After my 45 minutes of sleep, I woke up only to find that I had slept through the two alarms I had set. It was still only 7:00, so I had plenty of time to get to my bus. I survived the day without falling asleep at all (probably an extended adrenaline rush) and my tiredness caught up to me on the bus ride home. When I woke up, I had no idea where I was. "Oh, that's right. I was at school until now." I lasted the rest of the day without symptoms of exhaustion or need for naps, but when I went back to the apartment at 9:00 and curled up next to my feverish, bed-ridden sister, I was out like a light.
The more widely known version of this story is that we went home on the last train, not the first. Everything else is game, not that I expect anyone to be telling stories of my karaoke adventures.
YOU HAPPY NOW, TESSA?! If not, it will put your heart at ease to know that I used the "all you can drink" to get water and melon soda. Melon soda is nasty shite though. Too sweet and definitely too green.
Blaargh.
