I was just looking at my Blogger dashboard and noticed that it's been over two years since anyone posted at the Back Alley group blog. Perhaps it's time for termination.
Let's see how things have been since Monday. I performed another massive act of procrastination on Wednesday night. I didn't finish my menial assignments for the following day so that I could concentrate all my after-work time on my three-to-four page image analysis for Blacks in Film. It was not my best idea. I started my written responses for Art History and English after getting back from work at eight thirty, got distracted by a sushi study break and a late-night visit from Sarah, John, and Henry, and around midnight-thirty, finally set up a corner for myself in the computer lab down the hall to start my paper. (The roomies would not have appreciated the click-a-clack of typing through the night.)
By three-thirty, I had almost filled three pages and had enough scattered ideas down to be unscrambled into a coherent paper the following morning. I woke up at eight, went down to the library to print all three assignments, and started my editing process over breakfast. Between American Dreams and Art History, I managed to organize and unify the paper as best I could and rewrote the conclusion after lunch. When I handed it in, I was more afraid of getting a decent grade than I was of getting the terrible grade I deserve for putting it off until the morning of.
Yesterday, I was talking to Eric, fellow Dining Services employee and mc chris fan, who informed me that there was a new mc chris album out. He offered to burn it for me. Hooray for friendly dining hall staff!!
So, Thursday evening, I joined Sarah, Tess, and Tyler for dinner for the first time in a while. We eventually attracted a swarm of people to our tiny table in the corner and, after transferring to a larger table and hanging out for a while, dispersed into various places. The three of us, John, and Henry went to Tyler's room to complain about his roommate, watch Onion TV, and distract him from doing his Spanish homework. After a while, Tess and Sarah went back to their room to do work for their Friday classes, John and Henry went to the lounge to play pool, and Tyler and I were left with nothing to do.
"What time is it?"
"Ten twenty."
"I wonder if there are buffalo wings in the dining hall..."
We got food, despite not being very hungry, found John, and were found by Liz, Daniel, Taylor, K-Thrills, Michael, and Marshall. Again, the group dispersed after talking over curly fries, pizzas, ice cream, and other foods that will make us Freshmen Fatties. Henry, Marshall and I ended up in the lounge again, played some pool, watched some Futurama, Family Guy, and Harvey Birdman on Adult Swim, and decided a little after midnight to go check out the Wombats' party at the Scribner apartments.
The Wombats are Skidmore's X-TREME Ultimate Frisbee club. Competing with the Thespians, they are one of the closest things to a fraternity that this school has. By the time we got there, the party had been chiseled down to a group of stragglers who were mostly sticking around to keep the shit-faced host from hurting himself. Marshall and I talked to Chris, Dennis, and Bettina in the kitchen. Chris is a senior and French major who spent last year abroad in Paris. Dennis and Bettina are both juniors.
By the time I had to stiff-arm the incoherent host to keep him from running into me, we all decided it would be a good idea to leave. Chris, Henry, Marshall, and I went to Marshall's room where video games, guitar, and conversation ensued. Eventually, his roommate came back to crash, so Chris and I went to the lounge to see what was on the tube. We ended up watching the reruns of Futurama and Family Guy, which I had seen earlier in the evening. Chris was soon summoned by a magical voice on his cellular phone to make his way to a party somewhere, so I gave my goodnight greetings and headed to bed.
This morning, I got stood up by my tutee, who is sick in bed instead of busy studying Japanese. I am off to do my Visual Concepts weekend assignment in the art room. Tonight, I'll be working at the Soulive/RJD2 show (aka wearing a STAFF shirt and standing around), so by showing up two hours early, I get free admission. Hooray!!
I love having a three day weekend. So much to do and a lot of time to do it.
