The week after my last post was pretty messed up. We had Thursday off for Yom Kippur, so, aside from my one class on Friday morning, I had a four-day weekend. Rob, Olive, Hannah, and I headed up to Vermont on Saturday for a night. We made enchiladas and apple pie for dinner, watched some movies, and made a quiche in the morning. I started knitting a pair of mittens for Hannah, which, if I may say so myself, are pretty fantastic. I started working on the second mitten yesterday, so the going is good.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this already, but I met a freshman who unicycles at the beginning of the year. We decided to try and start a club (like O*Circus at Oberlin) where people could share their eccentric talents with the distant goal of performing. On Tuesday, we had a general interest meeting, which we were afraid would end up being the two of us sitting around in the SPA, juggling and unicycling. But much to our surprise, it ended up being a huge success. About twenty-five people showed up, which, according to the VP of Clubs, is one of the largest showings to a general interest meeting in recent memory. There were also people there representing their friends who couldn't make it, including someone who worked at a circus over the summer and now knows how to breathe fire and eat glass.

If you consider how many interesting talents people came hoping to share, it made sense that everyone wanted an outlet. Skidmore has closeted fire dancers, unicyclists, gymnasts, fire poi performers, speed painters, and mimes, among other things. (Unfortunately for me, a lot of them expend their performing energy in the theater. I'm hoping the club won't just become an extension of that insane and insular department.)

So that was really exciting. A bunch of people stayed behind to juggle. We're planning to have another meeting with a juggling concentration in about a week. Hopefully this will become a full-fledged club and, with school funding, we can buy a ton of unicycles, stilts, juggling balls, hula hoops, etc.

On Friday night, Hannah's Mom and Allie's parents took Olive, Hannah, Allie, Marina, Hannah's lil' sis, and I out to dinner at Chianti, a super fancy Italian restaurant in town. The food was great and the company was gay. I had a ton of fun.

Saturday night was a little more low key. Rob and Hannah's younger siblings came onto campus to hang out. We watched Sarah Palin's appearance on SNL, which was mind boggling. After work on Sunday, I took a really long bike ride down Maple Ave., which ended up leading nowhere. I did find a yard sale though, where I bought a small vacuum cleaner and a big wall clock, both of which I really needed.

It's getting really cold here and my body is reacting poorly. I'm almost done with my midterm obligations; I had a test for Medieval History on Thursday, and have a paper due for Popular Culture on Wednesday and a portfolio review for Drawing next Monday.

The master schedule for next semester came out. (Scheduling is probably the most exciting part of going to school. When I first heard that the schedule was available, I flipped out.) If I can get into all the classes I want to, I'll be taking Communication Design I, Textile Surface Design, French Film (in English), Intro to Oceanography, and High Medieval Europe. The only one that I'm really worried will fill up before I can enroll is Communication Design, which I really need to take if it's going to be my concentration. But there's only one section of fifteen once a year. Dumb.

This coming Friday is the Hunt (a crazy team scavenger hunt put on by the Outing Club). Olive and Hannah are judging, and I'll be tagging along to see what it's all about. Should be interesting.
