Summerland is ridiculous. I went as a member of the winning class of the 2006-07 Class Competitions. Despite being on vacation, someone decided that our group should go on a Sunday. It was hell of crowded. Fortunately, there was a heated indoor pool and a cold, rainy outdoor pool and park. Aside from the 40°C jacuzzi pool, everything outside was about as crowded as it would have been on a sunny weekday.

Before getting too wet, we decided to go on a couple of rides in the amusement park area, which wasn't included in our ticket. I went on the Free Fall and the Hell-Ship. I'm not sure how to explain either of those, but the former was not a standard free fall and the latter was like one of those swinging boat rides but a little different. After that, we got into our bathing clothes and took advantages of whatever outdoor facilities we could. Eventually, it got too cold and we went inside, where the wave pool was. It was incredible. The pool was so packed in anticipation of the next set of waves that you couldn't see any water. It was the Black (Hair) Sea. After everyone cleared out when the waves were done, my classmates and I went and hung out close to the source of the waves. We wrecked havoc and enjoyed ourselves before the waves came and dominated the day's activities.

The thing about Summerland is that it's out beyond the middle of nowhere and our experience, crowds and rain, didn't seem worthwhile. Fortunately, we had a nice gathering of people, many of whom I won't be seeing again for a while, and we didn't have to pay for tickets.

Yesterday, I went to a gathering of my grandmother's friends from India and entertained them with the tsugaru-shamisen. One of the other women had brought her second grade son, so we played ninjas/secret agents/gangsters in the halls. Aside from being ridiculously exhausted from the day before, it was enjoyable.
