In review, my summer:
- 44 hour drive from SC, Pennsylvania to Logan, Utah. Cat pissed in the car, Mia almost swerved off the road while sleep-driving. Good times.
- Fourth of July in Colorado with crazy relatives. Played with illegal (but not in Wyoming!) fireworks.
- Got internet in Utah and, immediately after, flew to Japan on my own. Woman in line behind me in suitcase check (for explosive chemicals) screams, "You don't have a bomb, do you?!" "Ummm, don't use the B-word in airports." "Oh, oops."
- Ended up sitting next to her on the plane to Minnesota
- Arrived in Japan 16 hours afterward
Okay, enough with the breifs. *snigger*
So, the first month or so was consumed with going to a hospital twice, then four times a day. My grandma recently moved to a rehab hospital that's kind of far away, so we go twice or three times a week. However, Grandpa is still in the hospital with conditions that vary from day to day. Sometimes he can eat well, sometimes he ends up just puking it all up. His white blood-cell count is increasing, not so steadily. He is probably going to get a stiff tube put into his esophagus so food will pass, but that will only hold up for a few months. So, at this point, I have no idea how things are going to end up, but I'm not going to assume or predict anything, for my sake.
Anyhow, on to the less depressing stuff. You're all probably wetting your pants to know how my American School in Japan experience is going. (Or maybe not...) My classes and teachers are über-excellent and I've made a friend as well as multiple friendly aquaintences. This weekend, I will be going to Shinjuku with my first EVER friend in Japan. She's actually from Hawaii and then California and doesn't speak any Japanese, but we'll forgive her.
Back to the academic aspect, I have a native Spanish speaker for Spanish III, which can be kind of confusing. Por examplo, on a conjugation test, he said "traer" but it sounded more like "traheear". So, I got six points off for conjugating "trajer" into preterite instead of "traer". (Grrrr...) We've been playing soccer in gym (which, surprisingly, I don't hate) and I've almost pulled the same muscles about four times. The teacher told me that I should try out for varsity in the spring because I have good "ball control". "Holy poo-knockers! A school sport?!" I responded, estatically (and less dramatically). However, I'm actually considering this option as I have nothing to do outside of school other than [a] do homework and/or [b] visit hospitals.
A facsinating concept in ASIJ is Japinglish or Janglish; the combination of Japanese and English.
ex: Demo ne, he's me-cha kibishii. translation: But he's soooo/über strict.
ex: Betsu ni why did they have to oosawagi about Colombus? translation: In any case, why did they have to make such a big deal about colombus?
It's quite funny. Chotto trouble ni naru no wa, it's slightly contagious... :P
Today, a kid on my bus was feeling a little under the weather (a.k.a. puking his guts up throughout the day) and I was on 'If-he-pukes duty'. After handing him a huge, plastic-lined bucket, I would pop my head up at least once every ten minutes during the one hour ride and ask "Gonna puke?" "Not now." "Oh." Due to the excessively long bus ride, I've been putting my iPod to good use. Unfortunately, I think my battery is on its way out. Maybe a few more months and then I'll get a new one and put it in myself. Horray for beautiful Apple mp3 players!
Speaking of Apple... *checks website* ....... HOLY SHIT! *wets self* *bows to gods of Apple computer*
*wipes sweat from brow*
Holy poop on a stick. Apple has done it again.
I should go before I pass out from excitement. But before I go...
You've got to love the early 70's.
