Friday, March 3

Well, yes. It's simple, but it's a change. Perhaps I'll add more to it later, perhaps not.

Another week has passed. Another day for celebration. (Yippee-yie-oh-kie-eh!)

I have a dilemma on my hands, however. I have to send in my application form for the summer program at the California College of the Arts by March 31st and need to put a first, second, and third choice for the course I want to do for the month-long program. My two top choices are architecture and graphic design, while my third (which I can't imagine I'd end up in if I apply by the priority deadline) is the combination course of illustration and printmaking.

The first two bring about the most trouble for my indecisive mind. I've never done any architecture courses, but I've certainly been infatuated with architecture since my first visit to a Frank Lloyd Wright house. I talked to a representative of the Savannah College of Art and Design at my school last week, who assured me that I didn't need any more math than pre-calculus and that there was no need for me to take AP Physics. If I were to take the architecture class next summer, it would lead to the program at SCAD (or a similar establishment), which is a five year program that ends with me graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in architecture and a Professional Master of Architecture degree in my grubby little hands. This is tempting, obviously, but what if I go to the summer class and decide that architecture isn't for me?

Which brings me to my other option. Graphic design has been appealing to me, mainly for its versatility; publication design, packaging design, web design, identity design, advertising design and more all spring from the fertile womb of graphic design. Different mediums can be pulled into the subject, be it illustration or photography, and, with said variety, comes a variety of career options. If I were to become a certified architect, there is an expected road to travel. The same is not true with a graphic design major but... Gah! Ah dinnae!!

Actually, reading back over what I've written, I'm probably better off with graphic design... maybe with a minor in advertising design or illustration.

But like I said before, I'm indecisive. A metaphorical penny for your thoughts!
