Last weekend was a good time. On Friday afternoon, I went to the Ad-Libs audition, scared out of my pants that I'd make an ass of myself. I may have, but I took comfort in knowing that there were a lot of people who were far less funny than I was. Not surprisingly, there were a lot of people there who were a hell of a lot funnier than me. No surprise, I didn't get called back. In the evening, Joe, AJ, and I watched Transamerica in my room before they left to socialize. Hillary and I stayed in to watch another episode of the Life of Mammals.
I worked in the dining hall on Saturday morning to make up for my upcoming trip to New York City on the Art Department sponsored bus trip. The rest of the day was used to complete an art project and catch up on some reading. Hillary decided to go to her grandparents' house for a relaxation break. I the evening, I ate dinner with a large table of friends and acquaintances. When it was time for dessert, the ice cream machine was still mixing the chocolate variety, so I sat down with Olive, Hannah, and friends while I waited. In the meantime, I was kindly invited to a suare at their friend Chris' apartment. (I'd met him on Thursday when I joined them to watch Man on the Moon.) He insisted that we show up at nine o'clock, which seemed awfully early for a Saturday night out. Sure enough, when we showed up at 9:03, he was shocked at how early we were. We helped him clean up and enjoyed a small dance, song, and drink party. We played the Bag Game, during which everyone stands around a brown grocery bag and, one at a time, stands on one leg, bends over, and picks it up with their teeth. With each round, the bag is rolled down a little bit. I came in second against a limber dancer... so I felt pretty good about that.
At eleven, we went to the Drag Show, which was awfully impressive in a "he can do splits?!" kind of way. At twelve, I went to the Ad-Libs show, only to realize that I was in no state to comprehend why people being ridiculous is performance-worthy. I talked to Joe a little bit and then left to find Olive & Co. We returned to Chris', where a free-styling and dance party was underway. After a while, we went our separate ways. When I got to my room, I got a text message from Liz, who came over for a talk about the group drama that I have avoided direct exposure to this semester. We went back to Rounds, had some popcorn, talked for a bit more, and then said goodnight.
Sunday was a beautiful day. Liz, Sarah, Tyler, and I took a really nice walk through Northwoods. Since I haven't seen much of Sarah this semester, it was fantastic to hang out and catch up.
Yesterday, Tuesday evening, was totally entry-worthy in itself. I was working my 6:15-8:15 shift in the dish room. At 8:00, the power went out and, while the dining hall generators had kicked in, the rest of campus was without electricity. It had been snowing all day and about half a foot of great packing snow had accumulated. The result: a snow bonanza in the green/white in front of the dining hall. By the time my shift was over, a few forts had been built, four snowmen loomed, and a giant snow cock had been erected. By 9:00, it was an all-school, free-for-all snowball fight. The best community building activities cannot be planned.
Alright! Time to catch up with my readings and study for mid-terms.
