This past week has been fairly uneventful. Classes ended and study days have not been particularly productive. I've watched a few movies though. On Wednesday night, I watched Teeth with some friends. It was hilarious but also disgusting. The creators clearly weren't taking themselves too seriously in making an extreme gore-fest, but dismembered members, no matter how funny, are also disturbing. Henry was sweating profusely by the end of the movie (which was relatively short). I imagine it's easier for girls to watch this movie than guys.
Yesterday, I went to the theater to see Iron Man. It was mind-blowing and incredibly entertaining. Definitely the best of all of the superhero movies so far; Rotten Tomatoes has even rated it the best film yet of 2008. Taking into account that it's a blockbuster, superhero movie, the plot is fairly realistic (a billionaire, genius, weapons manufacturer who realizes that his goods are getting into the wrong hands and has the money, brains, and facilities to do something about it), the characters pretty well developed (okay, maybe just the main character, Tony Stark), the script is well written (witty and well paced) and the technology and special effects are so amazing, especially considering that a lot of the computer interfaces and systems will exist in the not-too-distant future if they don't already. The humor, action, and drama are well balanced and play out in an engaging way. Also, Jeff Bridges was surprisingly fitting in the super-villain role; he seemed like he was plucked straight from the pages of a comic book. Go see it. I command you!!!
Then today, I watched The Savages, which was a tragic movie about aging. Philip Seymour Hoffman is incredible, as usual. The acting and writing really sink into the characters' flaws, lives, and dreams.
If you get anything out of this post, it should be this: Drop everything you're doing and go watch Iron Man.
